- 100% hundred percent of SOH’s TAY are from low-income households
- Most have histories of trauma, abuse, and neglect
- 90% are the first in their family to attend college
- 98% are Black and Latinx
- 75% percent are system impacted (foster care or combination of foster care and probation)
Our Impact:
- 90% of our youth and young adults report housing and education stability
- 76% of youth and young adults who received housing and/or rental assistance secured permanent housing
- 83% increased their income through financial aid, benefits, and/or employment
- Average GPA rose from 2.6 to 2.86
- 90% enrolled in college or vocational program
- 35% have completed a degree or certification (as of 2012 commencement of data collection)
- 95% have permanent connections with loving and caring adults outside of SOH.
Demographics and Statistics of Our Community
- South Los Angeles has the second highest concentration of homeless and foster care youth and young adults.
- 23% of Los Angeles County’s homeless youth and young adult populations is in South Los Angeles.
- 65% of South Los Angeles is designated as high concentration poverty neighborhoods.
- Half of South Los Angeles’ population is under the age of 30.
- Unemployment rates remain in double-digits as high as 45% for youth and young adults.
